The NFTI team hosted a community meetup that brought together data science enthusiasts and experts across Kaduna State. The meetup featured a lineup of talks that engaged data champions working on the NFTI longitudinal studies and new members who fancy an opportunity to be a part of it, uniting them around the shared goal of using data to address pressing social issues.
The event featured two alumni from the Click-On Kaduna Data Science Fellowship sharing inspiring insights on the topics “Why Data for Social Good” and “Advocacy in Action: Harnessing Community Voices for Data-Driven Change.” The talks highlighted the role of community engagement in shaping a future where data can inform decisions, change, and transform lives. Attendees gained fresh perspectives on the importance of using data to influence policy and cause positive change across critical sectors. Micah Daniel from DSFP 1.0 spoke about the use of data during his fellowship to drive policies in state government, emphasizing how fulfilling it was to see the projects he worked on have a real-life impact. Yazid S. Mikail from DSFP 2.0, on the other hand, emphasized the importance of advocating for data for social good. He spoke about inclusivity and democratizing data skills and how well-used data can fill in gaps.
In addition, NFTI offered an exclusive briefing on its ongoing longitudinal study, the importance of the study and how the team intends to leverage the community to make a significant impact on the study. Through knowledge sharing and collaborative discussions, the meetup underscored NFTI’s mission to foster a vibrant data-driven community in Kaduna. Members also discussed the many benefits of belonging to the community, ranging from skill-building and mentorship opportunities to hands-on experience in impactful data projects.
Our community can look forward to more of such events, projects, and collaborations in the future, and we will continue empowering our members with tools they need to drive positive change through data.
