In a concerted effort to fortify health data systems in Kano State, the Natview Foundation for Technology Innovation (NFTI) conducted a 2-day entry meeting for the Diagnostic Assessment for Strengthening Health Operational Data. This initiative brought together key stakeholders from the Kano State health sector to deliberate on strategies for enhancing data-driven decision-making and health delivery.
In collaboration with the Human Capital Managers (HCM), the primary objective of the assessment was to evaluate the existing Primary Health Care (PHC) data ecosystem in Kano State. This encompasses understanding data sources, governance models, collection processes, management practices, and the utilization of data for evidence-based decision-making. The assessment aims to provide an improved understanding of the operational framework and the data process workflow for operational data. It includes identifying data gaps and conducting a situational assessment of existing data to answer strategic continuum analyses.
NFTI seeks to enhance understanding of the governance model, organizational and institutional setup concerning the management of operational data. The assessment further involves identifying gaps, obstacles, and bottlenecks hindering efficient storage, retrieval, analysis, and reporting of operational data.
Stakeholders, including healthcare providers, administrators, policymakers, and data users, are actively engaged to comprehend their PHC data needs, challenges, and expectations. The diagnostic reviews focus on thematic areas such as Human Resource for Health, Service Delivery/Infrastructure, Supply Chain Management, Healthcare Financing, and Data Management. This comprehensive approach includes assessing existing studies across domains like Human Resource for Health, Service Delivery/Infrastructure, Supply Chain Management, and Healthcare Financing.
The completion of these diagnostic reviews is expected to enhance data governance by offering an improved understanding of the data governance structure and organizational setup driving data for insight generation. It also hopes to provide a line of sight on data collection processes and workflows at the facility level. This assessment will help establish a clear understanding of the available data driving performance management, determining insights that can be generated with current processes and workflows, also provide a clear understanding of the improvements required to generate operational data sustainably.
