Makarfi, Kaduna –

The Natview Foundation for Technology Innovation (NFTI) has been honored with a Meritorious Award by the Shehu Idris College of Health Sciences and Technology (SICHST), Makarfi. The award, presented by the National Association of Health Information Management Students (NAHIMS), recognized NFTI’s outstanding contribution to promoting data for social good in Kaduna State.

The award presentation took place during the school’s Health Information Management (HIM) Day, a ceremony that celebrates progress in digital health and information management. Since December 2024, NFTI has partnered with the institution by engaging over 60 students as volunteer Data Champions for its groundbreaking Longitudinal Study on Primary Healthcare in Kaduna State. These students have played a key role in collecting vital data on human resources for health and supply chain management across several primary healthcare facilities, helping assess service readiness and gaps.

Receiving the award on behalf of the Executive Director of NFTI, Mr. Nuradeen Maidoki, was Mr. Tokkida Semlek, Knowledge Management Officer at NFTI. In his remarks, Mr. Semlek expressed deep appreciation for the recognition and reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to promoting collaboration with academic institutions in Nigeria to drive development outcomes for its citizens.

In his keynote address, the Provost of the institution, Malam Shehu Danlami, commended NFTI for the tremendous impact it has made within a short period. He emphasized the role of human capital development in advancing the health sector and praised the foundation’s engagement of young people in real-world, data-driven projects.

A major highlight of the event was a presentation on Data Quality and Digital Health by Malam Abdul Bala Gali, the school’s Director of Affiliations and External Linkages. He delivered a citation highlighting NFTI’s history, achievements, and ongoing projects, applauding its unique role in advancing data for public health and innovation.

The event also featured cultural and musical performances by enthusiastic students, adding color and energy to the celebration. One of the key moments was the unveiling of newly installed signage on campus, a student-led project funded through contributions from the NFTI Data Champions. The signages were officially unveiled by Mr. Tokkida Semlek on behalf of the NFTI Executive Director.

As the students sang their school anthem, echoing the line “Confidentiality is our watchword,” it served as a powerful reminder of the values that bind healthcare professionals and data stewards alike. For NFTI, the event was a celebration of partnership and a reflection of our growing impact in building capacity, inspiring youth, and advancing data-driven decision-making in Nigeria.
