As a Communications intern at the Natview Foundation for Technology Innovation, I can sum up my day-to-day by saying I create content for the foundation, provide general support and bounce ideas on how to promote our values and missions creatively in the manner in which we would like the foundation to be perceived. I invest in my continued education learning and brushing up on anything that will add impact to my work and team. In just a few months of working as a comms intern, I have really come to enjoy the art of storytelling.
Last year was the year of getting out of my comfort zone, putting myself out there, and garnering the skills outside my academic inclinations. The most shocking reality check when the Covid-19 pandemic hit was that the world we knew could end in an instant. We came out from the lockdown reborn (well, I did!), having lived through uncertain times trying to make sense of the strange life imposed on us, something in us changed. It was this spirit of change that made me apply to intern with a technology foundation as a Communications Intern. Having spent years in freelance photography, I took the opportunity of the internship as a challenge to get an insight into what it feels like to work in a structured organization, and learn the dynamics of the office workspace and formal lingua, with stipulated deadlines, and to push my creativity to churn content on a daily basis. I am halfway into my internship with the foundation, and I must say that it’s been a blissful experience working here. It’s a job that comes with certain perks. Apart from the work environment being conducive, it is one that enhances your creativity. The job didn’t come without challenges, but the tasks have been stimulating and engaging with a high sense of self-fulfillment after a good job was done.
In retrospect, what I have enjoyed most about my internship with NFTI has been the gender ratio balanced workspace with most of the women working as project leads. It has been inspiring working with them.
Working here has been my gateway into the digital world; it has opened my eyes to the possibilities that can be achieved with Data and the impact that can be made through it. I am most proud to be part of the team promoting the projects executed by NFTI that have brought tangible change in our communities by using data for social good.
