The Natview Foundation for Technology Innovation (NFTI) recently organized a comprehensive field activity exercise with supervisors and enumerators as part of the Gates Foundation-funded diagnostics assessment aimed at strengthening operational data in Kano State’s Primary Health Care (PHC) system.

The main objective of this assessment is to evaluate the existing PHC data ecosystem in Kano state, focusing on understanding existing data sources, governance models, collection processes, management practices, and data utilization for evidence-based decision-making.

The field activity aimed to map key data origins, data workflow processes, and data pain points from the facility to the state. It also sought to identify available data and possible digitization points across the data transition process. Additionally, the exercise validated findings from both the desk review and FGD/KII sessions conducted to understand data governance structure and processes in the state.

A team of 11 enumerators, carefully selected from four local government areas (LGAs), was deployed to work across 44 facilities. They were supported by six state supervisors, seven control supervisors, and NFTI and Human Capital Managers (HCM) serving as the backend support team.

Before embarking on the field activity, enumerators underwent comprehensive training covering their responsibilities, data collection procedures, field ethics, device handling, reporting processes, and problem-solving techniques. This ensured they were well-prepared and equipped to execute their tasks effectively.

The field activity exercise conducted by NFTI underscores the organization’s commitment to leveraging technology and data-driven solutions to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare systems. By gathering valuable insights and identifying areas for improvement in PHC data management, this initiative aims to contribute to evidence-based decision-making and ultimately improve health outcomes in Kano State.

As the field activity progresses, NFTI remains dedicated to supporting and empowering healthcare stakeholders in Kano State, driving positive change, and fostering a culture of data-driven excellence in healthcare delivery.
