The Natview Foundation for Technology Innovation (NFTI) convened a peer learning review and briefing session with health facility in-charges and local government health officials from Makarfi LGA, following 12 successful rounds of visits under its ongoing longitudinal study. The one-day session provided a platform to share findings, validate data, build capacity, and strengthen collaborative approaches to improving primary healthcare service delivery.

The meeting began with opening remarks from the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, who spoke on behalf of the Health Secretary of Makarfi LGA, Hajiya Asmau. He welcomed participants, wished them smooth deliberations, and encouraged them to contribute actively to the discussions. Representatives of Shehu Idris College of Health Science and Technology also delivered goodwill messages, commending NFTI for its sustained commitment to building stronger health systems through innovation and data-driven approaches.

The NFTI team, led by Aisha Abdulaziz and Mudathir, presented updates from the longitudinal study, highlighting key challenges identified during the 12 rounds of visits. Their presentation underscored findings around human resources for health (HRH), supply chain management (SCM), and the importance of consistent, high-quality data to strengthen facility-level readiness and accountability.

Participants engaged in a detailed review of the longitudinal study scorecard, which offered insights into facility-level performance across Makarfi. The session was interactive, with participants asking questions, validating findings, and discussing the practical realities of managing HRH and SCM at the grassroots level.

To deepen the engagement, participants took part in group exercises, brainstorming solutions to challenges such as staff shortages, inconsistent reporting, and supply chain gaps. The conversations emphasized peer learning, with health workers sharing lessons from their facilities while also building consensus on best practices to adopt moving forward.

In concluding the session, Fatima Tafoki, Senior Program Advisor at NFTI, presented the next steps for the study. She reaffirmed NFTI’s commitment to completing the remaining activities of the longitudinal study and ensuring that the insights generated are translated into recommendations that can inform state-level decision-making.

The meeting ended on a hopeful note, as participants expressed their appreciation for the platform and pledged to strengthen their data practices, improve collaboration with data champions, and remain proactive in addressing challenges within their facilities.
