The Natview Foundation for Technology Innovation (NFTI) has supported the Kaduna State Bureau of Statistics (KDBS) in strengthening institutional reporting and knowledge management capacity through a two-day Report Writing Mentorship Training held at the Data Campus in Kaduna.
The training brought together staff from key technical and reporting departments within KDBS and forms part of a broader capacity-development initiative supported by NFTI under the Organizational Development grant from the Gates Foundation. The initiative is aimed at improving KDBS’ ability to produce high-quality, policy-oriented statistical reports that support evidence-based planning and decision-making across Kaduna State.
The mentorship programme focused on strengthening professional report writing skills, improving analytical storytelling, and enhancing the Bureau’s internal documentation and knowledge management systems. Participants engaged in practical sessions on the fundamentals of professional report writing, audience-centered communication, and the different categories of reports produced within KDBS.

Throughout the training, participants practiced transforming statistical findings into clear, structured narratives that communicate data insights effectively for policy and development purposes. The sessions also explored different reporting formats including survey reports, technical reports, Quality Assurance reports, policy briefs, executive summaries, and situation analysis reports.
The workshop also provided an opportunity for participants to align on standardized reporting approaches for future KDBS outputs, including the forthcoming General Household Survey reports. Staff from departments including Project and Technical Coordination, Census and Survey, Research and ICT, Economic and Social, and Special Duties and Corporate Relations participated in the mentorship programme.
The training reflects NFTI’s continued commitment to supporting institutional strengthening, data excellence, and sustainable knowledge systems through strategic partnerships and technical capacity development initiatives across Nigeria.
