Field pilot of the GeoST4R Session Tracker explores opportunities to strengthen health service monitoring, geospatial data use and evidence-based decision-making.
KANO STATE, NIGERIA | October 2026 — Natview Foundation for Technology Innovation (NFTI), a key partner in the GeoST4R project, is supporting efforts to leverage digital technology and data-driven approaches to improve health service delivery in Kano State, Nigeria.
As part of the initiative, the GeoST4R Session Tracker application underwent a field pilot on 9–10 October 2026 at two Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities in Kano State: Giginyu PHC in Tarauni Local Government Area (LGA) and Ahmed Ado Bayero PHC in Kumbotso LGA.

The pilot assessed the application’s functionality, usability and suitability for routine health service monitoring, with a focus on strengthening the documentation and tracking of planned and conducted health service sessions.
The field pilot evaluated the Session Tracker across four service areas: Antenatal Care (ANC), Labor and Delivery, Routine Immunization (RI) and Family Planning (FP).
The exercise brought together the GeoST4R team, state representatives, LGA Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Officers, Routine Immunization Officers (RIOs), community representatives and frontline health service providers.
Through practical engagement with the application, facility personnel and programme stakeholders explored its potential to support the systematic documentation of health service sessions and improve the availability of information for programme monitoring.
Monitoring teams from Kumbotso and Nassarawa LGAs were also sensitized on the tool’s functionality and potential application in routine health service delivery.

The pilot provided valuable insights into applying digital tools in health facility operations and monitoring fixed and outreach sessions.
It also highlighted the importance of aligning digital solutions with existing health information systems and reporting processes to support effective integration into routine service delivery.
Feedback gathered from facility personnel and programme stakeholders will inform further refinement of the Session Tracker, with the aim of enhancing its usability and strengthening its contribution to health programme monitoring and reporting.
