The Natview Foundation for Technology Innovation (NFTI), in collaboration with the Kaduna State Bureau of Statistics (KDBS), conducted a training on the reclassification of public health facilities and the adoption of the Health Facility Analytics (HEFA) Registry platform for key stakeholders in Kaduna State’s health sector.

The training brought together representatives from the State Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Unit, State Health Management Information System (HMIS), Zonal M&E Coordinators, and other key stakeholders responsible for health data management, planning, and reporting across the state.

A major highlight of the engagement was the demonstration of the HEFA dashboard, a platform developed to address fragmented health facility records across multiple systems, including HMIS, Electronic Integrated Supportive Supervision (EISS), and microplanning platforms. The platform provides a single authoritative directory of health facilities, replacing duplicated and outdated facility lists while aligning with the National Health Facility Registry (NHFR) and the Master Facility List.

During the presentation, participants were introduced to the challenges HEFA seeks to solve and how the platform supports more efficient health sector planning and coordination. Through the dashboard, health facility information is consolidated into a unified system, enabling stakeholders to access accurate and up-to-date facility records from a single source.

The HEFA platform is designed to standardize data management processes, ensure data quality and integrity, clarify stakeholder roles and responsibilities, promote interoperability across health information systems, support evidence-based planning, facilitate real-time facility updates, and institutionalize sustainable data governance practices within Kaduna State’s health sector.

The development of the platform was guided by the principles of accuracy, timeliness, standardization, transparency, and accountability, ensuring that facility data remains reliable and actionable for decision-making.

Participants were also introduced to the platform’s monthly update cycle, which is triggered on the 25th of every month and supported by automated reminder emails to designated officers responsible for updating facility information. This process ensures that critical facility indicators remain current and available for planning and monitoring purposes.

Unlike traditional approaches that rely on periodic surveys or censuses before decisions can be made, the HEFA platform provides real-time data that supports continuous decision-making. The system enables stakeholders to monitor key facility indicators, including functionality status and security status, ensuring that planners and policymakers have access to current information when allocating resources and responding to emerging needs.

A live demonstration of the dashboard was conducted during the training, allowing participants to log into the platform, explore its features, understand the workflow, and interact directly with the system. The session generated extensive discussions and questions from stakeholders, providing an opportunity to clarify processes and gather feedback for continued improvement.

The dashboard currently captures and monitors data for Centres of Excellence (COEs), Primary Health Centres (PHCs), and Health Clinics (HCs), providing a centralized platform for tracking facility information and supporting strategic health sector planning across Kaduna State.

The training represents an important step toward strengthening health information systems and institutionalizing data-driven decision-making across the state. By equipping stakeholders with the knowledge and tools required to maintain accurate facility records, Kaduna State continues to advance efforts to build an integrated, transparent, and responsive health system capable of delivering better outcomes for its citizens.
